FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS
The Full Moon will occur at 16°59’ Aquarius (antiscion 13°01’ Scorpio) on 9th August.
Aquarius is the sign of friendship and group activity, it’s about being independent and inventive whilst being part of a larger group of like-minded people as we work towards a common goal.
Being a sign (Aquarius) with two rulers then we might say that the Moon’s passage in this sign could result in two different types of reactions: Moon-Saturn is notoriously a combination where our feelings are more than dampened and when we are given the opportunity to take a harsh look at where we’re putting them and perhaps why. These thoughts can also manifest as a sinking or generally depressed feeling. Moon-Uranus is a jump-start to our emotions with perhaps lightening mood changes and wanting to belong but at the same time to be alone or independent from others emotionally, the “I’m yours but don’t get too close type of feeling!”
The Moon and Sun oppose each other as they look upon the world and its ongoing state, they do not make Ptolemaic aspects to any other planet in the chart. (I only use the 7 traditional planets plus the 3 outers).
Saturn, Moon’s traditional ruler, is conjunct Neptune and both planets are retrograde which indicates a poor ability to work in a “correct” way. This conjunction is sextile both to Uranus (modern ruler of Aquarius) and Pluto R and is activating in a less forceful way the Grand Air Trine which is formed by Mars, Uranus and Pluto R. Grand Air trines tendentially want to create and conceptualise on a more abstract level and therefore the ideas that come out of them are often impractical but they need another transiting planet to active the trine. Here we have the Saturn R-Neptune R in opposition to Mars which is in detriment in the sign of Libra. Three planets, two of which malefics, greatly debilitated and thus more inclined to be naughty whilst being part of, or activating this Grand Trine and the resultant Kite formation (the trine and sextiles formed by Uranus, Pluto, Saturn and Neptune). A recipe for delinquency if ever there was one. Furthermore, Saturn R and Neptune R are both sextile to Uranus and Pluto R which are in a trine aspect to one another. Mercury, peregrine in Leo also plugs into the Grand Trine by being in opposition to Pluto R, in sextile to Uranus and in trine to the Saturn R-Neptune R conjunction.
In synthesis: the Grand Trine is composed of three very volatile planets, Pluto R seems to want a total transformation of the social scene but being retrograde perhaps needs more time to think about it, Uranus has tons of ideas and doesn’t lose time talking about them, Mars in Libra prides himself as a diplomat. What an earth could go wrong! Mars is not only trine Uranus, there is also a parallel of declination between the two making the bond even stronger. Mercury is //Sun and is also ruled by Sun, a sound chamber for the Sun’s intentions as well as connecting the Sun to the Grand Trine. I had no doubt that our leaders were on top of this.
There is a total lack of the Earth Element in the lunation chart, practicality is totally absent together with empathy where only two planets reside. Air and Fire are predominant with four planets each, let’s hope that rationality and inspiration will be of aid. The Modalities have five planets in Cardinal signs, four in Fixed and only two in the Mutable signs, it could be a game of push and pull.
The Full Moon falls on the 11th-5th – Aquarius-Leo – axis so whilst the Moon is illuminating our friendship zone the Sun in Leo is shining in our house of individuality wanting us to sparkle on our own…will we be able to find a compromise between the two?
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this Full Moon phase “the Friendship Moon” and he invites us to hang out with our friends during this period, asking others and ourselves just what value friendship has for us in our lives.
The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 17° Aquarius: “A watchdog stands guard, protecting his master and his possessions.” Indicating the development of the capacity to protect oneself and to safeguard one’s individual rights under complex social pressures.
For the antiscion at 14° Scorpio: “Telephone linemen at work installing new connections.” Indicating the need to establish new channels of communication.
For the Sun at 17° Leo: “A volunteer church choir singing religious hymns.” Indicating the feeling of togetherness which unites men and women in their dedication to a collective ideal.
“We are set in our ways, bound by our perspectives and stuck in our thinking.” Joel Osteen
