Kite Formation of August 2025: A Rare Outer Planet Alignment

The chart below shows an unusually exact ‘Kite’ formation on the Full Moon of August 9th at 07.55 UT. It began lining up on August 1st, with Mars still in late Virgo, clicking into place when entering Libra on August 6th. In general, this pattern is not rare, but this one certainly is because …
- All the outer planets – Uranus, Neptune and Pluto – are exactly involved. This last happened in 1944-47, but the pattern never reached this level of exactitude.
- Back then, in early February of each year, when the Sun and faster moving planets were in Aquarius, a similar Kite formed as they opposed Pluto.
- Saturn is now also involved, aspecting all of them and opposing Mars.
- The pattern involves five planets, rather than the ‘prototype’ of four.
What are we to make of this?
Out in ‘the world’, the cards are already down on the table. However, the nature of the game being played, and indeed the players in the room are still open to conjecture. Be prepared for surprising turns of events, reverses and escalations … but look out for ‘hidden miracles’ too.
Last time this Kite appeared, borders were redrawn, treaties signed, massive human casualties occurred, international organisations were created … the list goes on and sounds familiar … and …
Remember that what we see in the world’s political sphere will largely represent the dense energies evoked by power, greed and control – in resistance to the transpersonal energies of the outer planets, whose movements catalyze and nourish our spiritual maturation and life unfoldment.
Taking the inner view, the astrological ‘Kite’ shows a Grand Air Trine (here Mars, Pluto, Uranus) with the Uranus-Pluto side bifurcated by sextiles to Saturn-Neptune in Aries (Fire). They, in turn, are opposite Mars. The trine aspect is a free-flowing energy between planets/signs which may relate harmoniously, but can also be expressed as compulsiveness and escalation. An ‘opposition’ sometimes manifests as just that, but its process is actually one of awareness.

Kites have brought joy, fun and playfulness to us humans worldwide for millennia, and several cultures claim to have invented them. They use natural aerodynamics, but need a human anchor on the ground both to launch them and also to keep them aloft, navigating the air currents.
Look at the upper part of the picture and see where the guide-string is attached. Matching that with the astrological chart above, Saturn is the only physically visible planet in this grouping – he holds the boundary between personal and transpersonal energies. So Saturn may be a key to allowing this Kite formation to stir the soul, helping us stay grounded as our spirit soars.
What might this look like?
Howards Sasportas used to say that our job is to ‘upgrade’ the way the astrology of our chart is experienced and expressed. Following his advice at this time, we can perhaps embrace our own density, resistance and fear with some positive Saturn. There is a certain hesitancy with Saturn in Aries, perhaps amplified by the opposition to Mars. Avoiding the temptation to force issues, we can fruitfully engage the energy of the Hermit, the solitary Tarot figure who carries the Light. In the privacy of our inner sanctuary, we can release the desire to take control where it is not necessary. And watch and wait, taking only those actions which are necessary or to which we are called by conscious choice, not compulsion. Thrival
Above is a third kind of kite, a raptor which we could perhaps invite to be our ‘spirit animal’ during this time. May we soar in freedom, with sure vision and far sight like the Red Kite above, and also thrive as it has done. Kites are scavengers which clean up carrion – they ‘de-clutter’ the environment and are thus associated with purification and with the Underworld. By the late 1980s this gorgeous bird was on the ‘endangered species’ list in the UK, but is now thriving, thanks to a successful reintroduction programme. This was begun in 1990, just after during the last conjunction of Saturn and Neptune!
