NEW MOON IN LEO 24 JULY 2025
NEW MOON IN LEO
A time to shine but not for all…..
There will be a New Moon at 02°08’ Leo (antiscion 27°52’ Taurus) on the 24th of July.
New Moons are times when the Sun and Moon are conjoined in the identical degree of the same sign and this causes the Moon to remain hidden from our view.
The Sun and Moon will be in the very first degrees of Leo, it’s as though they become super-charged with Leo qualities which include, on the upside, generosity, warm-heartedness and playfulness but an exaggerated pride and desire to show off can sometimes spoil the day too.
The New Moon is in a tight opposition with Pluto R, society (Aquarius) needs to dig deep into its subconscious in order to renew itself without self-destructing. Oppositions call for a compromise and often bring some kind of regret or disappointment with them since we can see exactly where the problem is coming from but to sort it involves discomfort which none of us like and many fear. The three planets involved are all in Fixed signs and Moon (the people) is combust and under the sway of the Sun (our leaders). Pluto is about power, who has it, who yields to it, who can actually handle it, the planet will soon be OOB in South declination and therefore even more unpredictable, it is also conjunct Fixed Star Altair, of the nature of Mars and Jupiter (huge energy) according to Ptolemy, and which confers an unyielding, ambitious and liberal nature. Leo is about the satisfaction of the self, derived from the appreciation which comes from the society as a whole (we still have far too many baby boomers in positions of command when they should be thinking what to do with the years that they still have to live as well as what kind of memory they want to leave the world). Aquarius is about the collective how can we better society enabling us therefore to improve ourselves? This opposition aspect is not an easy combination to control.
The Sun is //Uranus giving further unpredictability, Moon//Jupiter and both c//Pluto, the people may embrace revolution in a too enthusiastic manner.
The New Moon is also trine the Saturn R-Neptune R conjunction in Aries and sextile Uranus in Gemini. A dissolution of boundaries through warfare in a sudden and unexpected manner.
Venus square Mars with Mars leaving a conjunction to South Node are all ruled by Mercury which is backtracking into a state of combustion when it will soon be unable to act or be seen. Both Venus and Mars are peregrine, in bad shape not knowing exactly how to act and certainly not behaving according to norm. Mars wants to get the details right (Virgo), Venus is happy to know the facts and socialize (Gemini). Perhaps Venus discloses facts that aren’t “right” and tries to cover them up in glossy terms, Mars isn’t having it, any fights could end up badly.
We still have the ongoing trine between Uranus and Pluto R with both planets making a sextile to the Saturn R and Neptune R. Air and Fire, sparks could continue to fly and could lead to a big fire if not kept in check.
We have an excess of the Fire Element and also of the Fixed Modality in this lunation chart. Stubbornness and inflexibility together with misplaced enthusiasm.
The Moon in Leo finds itself on the 5-11th axis of zodiac wheel (Leo-Aquarius), so, me vs them, warm-hearted vs unemotional, artist vs scientist etc.
In his book “Moon Phase Astrology”, author Raven Kaldera describes this moon as the
“Sun Child’s Moon”
a creature of smiling, radiant light. The people born under this moon phase in Leo have a tremendous zest for life and love to be looked at, making people gasp and drop their jaws as they charm the pants off them!
During the Sun Child’s Moon he invites us to concentrate on our own creativity in any endeavour we might undertake since this is a good time to shine, even if you’re not used to the limelight, or to feel special to others in some way.
It’s a great moment to set intentions for the coming month regarding the matters of the house where it falls in our natal chart. New Moons can be seen as moments of “seeding”.
A Leo New Moon imbues us with optimism in the house in which it occurs in our natal theme bestowing a desire to be recognised and feel special in some way regarding the affairs of that house with Leo on the cusp.
If the lunation makes an aspect to a planet in our natal chart, then that planetary energy is awakened and energized, and intentions should be related to that planet, sign and house. If we consciously choose to harness the power of the New Moon and the energy of any planet it aspects (tight orbs no more than 2°) we become capable of noteworthy new beginnings in that area of our life. It will most involve those people with planets/angles between 0-5° of the Fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius and the antiscion point of 27° 52’ Taurus.
The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 03° Leo: “A middle-aged woman, her long hair flowing over shoulders and in a bra-less youthful garment.” Indicating the will to meet the challenge of age in terms of our modern society’s glorification of youth.
For the antiscion point of 28° Taurus: “A woman, past her “change of life” experiences a new love,” Indicating man’s capacity to rise in consciousness and feeling above biological limitations.
“Better to illuminate than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths than merely to contemplate.” Thomas Aquinas
What are your intentions for this New Moon?
